Nestled amid a mecca of medical facilities along Sunset Boulevard, the urban Children’s Hospital LA campus holds nine buildings, including the recently completed patient tower. SKA was enlisted to improve wayfinding following this major construction project and create seamless linkages between the existing hospital and the new tower since several departments had been relocated from one to the other.
This effort involved peer review of the tower’s new sign program, updates to exterior campus signing, and new signs for the existing hospital building. Directories, check-in area information signs and directional signing in the existing hospital lobby were updated, as well as wayfinding signs in primary corridors of the first floor. Elevator lobbies were treated with playful wall graphics for strategic wayfinding reinforcement. By incorporating animal graphics into these elements, SKA succeeded in connecting the old and new programs while establishing a universal campus signing standard.
