A 1998 voter proposition led to the merging of Los Angeles’ municipal courts with the superior court system, creating a single administration to oversee all civil, felony criminal, family law, Juvenile Delinquency and Dependency, and probate cases for the county. This transition spurred tenant improvement projects at several of the county’s 36 courthouses. SKA was brought on board to refine and complete a signage program for the Chatsworth Courthouse, which was started by another consultant. SKA developed site signage, exterior building identification, vehicular directional, and all interior directional, identification and code signs for the building. The design solution reflects the contemporary, linear expression of the building architecture.
