SKA Design was hired to develop exterior and interior signage for a new 215,000 square foot, 800-inmate, maximum-security men’s detention facility in Kern County, California. This state of the art project includes specialized mental health housing units, video visitation capabilities, administration and support offices and both indoor and outdoor recreation areas. Due to the nature of the residents of this facility, most of the signage had to be painted on the walls. A simple grid was developed to insure that all graphics were within ADA requirements and consistent for all walls, doors and window locations. Identification monuments and wayfinding signage was developed for the campus.
