East Los Angeles is a rapid-growth, multi-cultural community on the periphery of downtown Los Angeles. As plans to extend the Metro Gold rail line through the heart of the community evolved, officials prepared for a further growth boom by garnering support from local constituents for developing a civic core where the community could gather.
An architectural team was engaged to transform a 29-acre site into vibrant nexus that would be home to a new library, health center, municipal court and sheriff’s station. SKA provided design services for primary project identification signage, vehicular entry and directional, pedestrian directional and you-are-here kiosks. Cultural influences are captured in the design, and sign elements are naturally integrated within the landscape.
