Metrolink is a commuter rail system connecting the Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties. It currently consists of seven lines and 55 stations using over 500 miles of track. It began operating in 1992 under the management of the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA). From the beginning, SCCRA has turned to SKA to address their signage and graphic needs. SKA’s contract has been renewed multiple times, leading to a 20+ year relationship.
SKA’s precursory work established the graphic standards for signage in terms of sign forms, function, materials, colors, typography, and logo usage, as well as the graphics applied to rail vehicles. Based on the standards, SKA then programmed and implemented individual sign programs at various stations. Most recently, SKA has been working with SCRRA to update the graphic standards in alliance with a corporate rebranding effort.
