Surrounded by majestic mountains, magnificent ocean panoramas, and distinct Spanish Colonial and Moorish Revival architecture, Santa Barbara is often flooded with tourists seeking a peaceful respite. The Waterfront is a tourist favorite for its attractive collection of commercial offerings in Stearn’s Wharf, Santa Barbara Harbor and the breakwater.
The City hired SKA to create a graphic identity for the area. SKA started by crafting an artistic image of a sailboat in the harbor. Wayfinding and identification signage were then programmed, using the graphic as a branding device. Lining the waterfront drive are permanent banner signs cast in porcelain enamel to withstand marine wear and tear. Standalone full-color directory maps anchor key decision points, and wayfinding is aided by identification and directional signs. Signs supports of decorative scroll ironwork provide extra visual interest while tying to the prevailing communal architecture.
