Ontario International Airport is a medium-hub, full-service, commercial jet airport located in the eastern realms of greater Los Angeles. In the 1990s, a major expansion project was initiated, providing two new terminals with 35 gates, a new ground transportation center, an additional parking lot and new roadway system. For the past 20 years, SKA has provided professional expertise related to this effort, including the following elements:
Terminal Reconfiguration and Expansion
SKA prepared a comprehensive signage program for the roadways, terminal drop-off islands, and building exterior, as well as all public lobbies, ticketing, baggage claim, concourses and gate/hold rooms inside the terminals. The design solution cleverly merges branding elements, such as the Los Angeles World Airports’ logo and Ontario’s signature color, into a unique wing-shaped panel constructed of fiberglass.
Onsite Roadway (2006)
Additional onsite upgrades required a portion of the roadway signs to be replaced. SKA assessed the existing inventory and prepared documentation for replacing outdated signs and worn or damaged sign cabinets.
Archibald Avenue Bridge (2007)
SKA developed new designs for replacing existing signs on railroad and pedestrian overpass bridges.
Terminal 1A Improvements (2008)
After the new terminals opened, Terminal 1A was re-purposed and renovated as a remote terminal. SKA provided exterior identification, and interior signage for boarding areas, security, waiting and ticketing.
